Getting started
This guide covers the first half of the workflow a user follows in i-Secure-By-Design. The second half is covered in the pipeline workflow section.
Overall workflow
1. Create a project.
2. Select the correct diagram environment.
3. Build your diagram (components and connections).
4. Set scope values so no items remain in alert/not-assessed state.
5. Select configuration options so components are fully specified.
6. Move to pipeline workflow once diagram and scope/configuration are complete.
Step 1: Create a project
Before you create your first project it is advised you try out some of the tutorial projects. You can access them by opening the projects menu and clicking on some of the samples. When you are ready to create your own diagrams:
1. Open Projects.
2. Select New Project.
3. Confirm project name.
Before clicking the 'Create' button check step 2:
Step 2: Select a diagram environment
- Choose the environment that matches your modeling intent (for example, Simple Web App, High Level Architecture, AI Agent). The diagram envrionment will determine the components you can bring into the diagram, what controls are availabile to configure and what the output will be.
Verify:
- A new project should appear in Porjects with the correct name, environment and version badges.
Step 3: Create the diagram
- Add components relevant to your system.
- Add connections between components.
- Verify structure reflects the real architecture.
Expected result:
- Diagram includes all key nodes and flows required for assessment.
Step 4: Set scope values
- For each relevant scope category, set
inScope, outOfScope, ornotAssessedappropriately. - Continue until no required items remain in alert/not-assessed state.
Expected result:
- Nodes and connections no longer show unresolved assessment alerts.
Step 5: Select configuration options
- Complete required configuration options for components/connections.
- Ensure fields needed for rule evaluation are specified.
Expected result:
- Components are fully specified and ready for stable rule/control evaluation.
Step 6: Move to pipeline workflow
Once diagram, scope, and configuration are complete:
- Proceed to the Pipeline Workflow topic.
- Use pipeline stages to generate and refine downstream artifacts.
